How do i know if my vintage Chanel bag is real?

A few days ago i got a vintage Chanel bag, and it had no serial number. most people are saying that a Chanel bag always has the serial number, but mine doesn't. is that because it is old?
It has the leather label inside with the Coco Chanel logo

How much did you get it for? And where? What does the chain look like?
