What does the number on the back of my sterling silver earrings mean?

On the back of my earrings (sterling silver studds) that I think are 'butterfly backs' (the ones with two circles) it has a number written on the back that's quite small.
It says 825.
What does this mean?

I wanted some relatively inexpensive, sterling diamond earrings to go with a sterling diamond heart pendant I got for Valentine’s Day. These earrings were EXACTLY what I was looking for!
