RIVERSIDE: Motorcycle honoring Coast Guard built locally

A 1945 Indian motorcycle, restored and custom-painted in Riverside, is one of five bikes honoring branches of the U.S. military that will travel to Washington, D.C., as part of an annual Memorial Day event.

Mike Tomas, of Riverside-based Kiwi Indian Motorcycle Co., created the bike honoring the U.S Coast Guard. Custom bikes were built for the other four branches — the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Since the Coast Guard has boats and helicopters, but not its own motorcycles, Tomas said, he opted to use a military-edition bike from World War II.
