‘WHAT’S False WITH THIS PICTURE’S Incarnation?’
In the second main chapter of Barna and Viola’s words Pagan Christianity, we are given a abrupt history of some forms and orders of deification, with perhaps a special underscoring on low church Protestant worship. Missing is a chat of Catholic worship, various forms of Conservative worship and Anglican worship. I think it is just assumed that these forms of extol are so unBiblical, that don’t even sanction discussion.
Perhaps, to be fair, it is because Barna and Viola are primarily preaching to their own choir (except they don’t much favor choirs or venerate leaders), or at least to low church Protestant churches in worldwide. My concern in this post is less with the documented analysis, though there are some flaws in the fracas and flies in the ointment there (e.g. Zwingli did not include a purely memorial view of the Baron God’s Supper—see the work of Dr. Steinmetz of Duke superiority on this point), but with its theological underpinnings which are malfunctioning in various ways.
My concern is above all with the supposed Biblical view of respect they assume, assert, and off argue for. I realize that the reliable constructive project, where they hold their positive case is coming in their resulting book Reimagining Church, however there is more than passably here in this book to decipher my hair stand on end, so I will be responding here noticeably...
