Gift certificate for spa that closed?

My husband bought a day spa gift certificate for $400 for Mother's Day. I have been calling for the past couple of days to make an appointment and no one answers. I went to the location and they are closed- permanently. Did we lose this money or is there

Did he buy it from that same location?
If it was chain, other locations may honor it, but if it was a stand alone facility, you are probably out of luck.
The only option I can think of, if it was not a Corp. or LLC, maybe you could place
